SY’s love of opera started in university when she minored in Music, it culminated in her being assistant to director (and mentor) Elizabeth Vrenios’ production of Henry Purcell's Dido & Aeneas. Her most recent endeavour as creator, producer, visual artist, and stage director was the successful and critically lauded Butterfly’s Dream: An Abridged Re-telling of Madama Butterfly for Stage & Cinema, produced in April 2024 at Singapore’s Stamford Arts Centre. She collaborated with Opera Festival Asia for their maiden Silk Road tour series by producing 27 short films and a full length visual presentation to accompany their vocal events in August 2024 in both Singapore and Bangkok.

SY often combines various different disciplines into her work which tends towards historical fiction and also, on the flip-side, social documentary. She is the proud wife of classical guitarist Hunter Mah and the prouder mother of two daughters.
